Supporting growth in the Gungahlin region
Canberra’s north is continuing to grow, with more homes, businesses and major developments increasing demand on the electricity network. At the same time, electrification is changing when and how customers use electricity, placing new pressure on parts of the network that were designed for different demand patterns.
Evoenergy is upgrading the electricity network in Gungahlin by installing new 11 kV feeders from the Gold Creek Zone Substation across Gungahlin to Ernest Cavanagh Street and Horse Park Drive. These feeders will help provide additional electricity where it is needed, supporting growth in the area and improving the reliability of electricity supply for local customers.
11 kV feeders are an important part of the electricity distribution network. They carry power from a zone substation to distribution substations, where electricity is then transformed to a voltage suitable for homes and businesses. The new feeders will be installed underground in conduit and will allow more power to be delivered to Gungahlin where it is needed.
This investment will also help maintain a safe and reliable network as customer needs continue to change, including increased use of electric vehicles, electric heating and cooling, rooftop solar and other technologies.
How the project will be delivered
Evoenergy has partnered with Zinfra to deliver this project safely and efficiently. Our teams will work together to install the new feeders.
Due to the need to install the feeders underground, there will be some disruption during construction. This will include road and lane closures, and changes to pedestrian access. We apologise for the inconvenience these impacts will cause.
The safety of the community and our crews is our priority. We are working with Roads ACT to ensure appropriate traffic management controls and signage are in place to safely direct traffic and pedestrians. Works have been carefully staged and coordinated to reduce disruption as much as possible.

What work is being done?

Contingencies have been built into the schedule and we do not expect it to change. However, in the event of changes, we will update the community as soon as possible.
