Evoenergy crews worked through difficult conditions overnight to restore power to thousands of customers after severe storms caused extensive damage to the electricity network across the ACT. Work continues today with additional crews on the ground inspecting damage, making the network safe and carrying out repairs.
At the height of the storm, around 9,000 customers were without power. Through wind and heavy rain, crews worked carefully to restore power supplies, with around 300 customers remaining without power this morning.
The severe weather brought down trees and branches across Canberra, resulting in fallen powerlines and damage to overhead electricity infrastructure across multiple regions.
Planned work has been deferred where possible, with additional crews and contractors deployed to support restoration efforts and restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
Evoenergy Manager Capability, Standards and Assurance, Bronwen Butterfield, said today’s work would focus on understanding the full extent of the storm’s impact and restoring power.
“Our crews worked through difficult conditions overnight to restore power to thousands of customers, and today they’re continuing repairs across the network so we can safely reconnect those customers still without supply.”
“We expect to identify more storm damage throughout the day as crews inspect the network and members of the community report hazards, including trees on powerlines, in their streets and backyards. As we gain a clearer picture of the damage, we’ll continue updating estimated restoration times on our website.”
“We thank our community for their cooperation as we repair the network.”
Safety reminder
Evoenergy reminds the community to stay at least 10 metres away from any fallen or low powerlines and anything they may be touching, as powerlines should always be treated as live.
Customers are encouraged to check on neighbours, family and friends who may need additional support during prolonged outages.
