Storm response update | Monday 11 December 5 PM

There are around 20 single premises without power after Friday night’s storm. These customers require individual repairs and we’re aiming to get most back online by midnight, with a small amount which may be restored tomorrow.

There were 14,000 customers without power across the ACT when the storm hit on Friday night. By Saturday morning there were 800 customers without power, down to 340 on Sunday morning.
While some of the initial outages were caused by lightning strikes, most of the damage to our network came from trees and tree branches falling on powerlines. We worked with arborists throughout the recovery process to remove trees so our crews could safely restore power.

In the coming week we will need to return to some parts of the network to complete additional and more permanent repairs. Some customers may experience a subsequent outage while our crews perform these works. Some planned outages will be cancelled this week while we focus on storm repairs and we will notify customers of this where we can.

The damage to our network was extensive and this is why it has taken as longer than usual to get everyone restored. Extended outages are never convenient – so we appreciate the Canberra community’s patience and support for our crews.

We would like to thank the Evoenergy crews who have worked hard these past few days – as well as our neighbouring distributors in NSW whose crews assisted our response.

After events where we have seen powerlines come down – it is always an important reminder to stay at least 10 metres away from fallen or damaged powerlines. Do not touch anything the lines are touching either, such as a fence or gate. You should also call our team on 13 10 93 to report damage straight away.
