Storm response update | Saturday 9th December 3 PM
On Friday 8 December 2023 at around 8.00pm, Canberra experienced a fast-moving storm resulting in extensive damage to our electricity network. At the height of the storm, we had around 14,000 properties without power across the ACT.
Overnight and today, our crews have restored power to 13,000 properties, prioritising repairs that will have the most substantial impact. These include tasks like removing large trees, pole cross-arm replacements and stringing new conductors.
At 3:30pm Saturday there remains 657 properties without supply. We have all available crews on site as well as another network coming to help, with our aim to reconnect most customers by 9pm tonight.
Unfortunately, there will be some properties where power may not be restored until tomorrow night. Those without power should consider relocating or look to the ACT Emergency Services Agency for guidance on safety during today’s heat.
We apologise for the disruption and thank you for your patience as we work to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. We will keep posting updates, and regular SMS updates are being sent to affected customers.
If you see fallen powerlines or damaged electrical equipment – stay at least 10 metres away from them or anything they’re touching – including fences. If you’re unsure if they’ve been reported, call us on 13 10 93.
