Do you know that around 140 unplanned power outages are caused each year by trees and falling branches during seasonal weather events? Spring is the perfect time to inspect your backyard and make sure there are no safety issues.
Look up to check that tree branches and vegetation are at least 1.5 metres away from powerlines, poles and all other network infrastructure. It is extremely dangerous to attempt to trim them yourself if your trees or vegetation are within 1.5 metres, or may come within 1.5 metres during trimming. Always engage an Evoenergy accredited arborist to do this for you. For high-voltage powerlines or in bushfire prone areas, the minimum clearance is 2.0 metres.
Arryn Bennetts, Evoenergy’s resident vegetation specialist explains things to consider before planting. “Choose appropriate trees and shrubs best suited to your backyard by considering what size your vegetation will grow to when it is fully mature. Select an appropriate location to ensure they do not impact Evoenergy’s poles and powerlines, saving you money in the long run,” said Arryn.
“Together, we can reduce power outages by preparing our backyards now for the upcoming storm season.”
