New electricity transmission line to support Jerrabomberra

Share:

21 May 2020

To meet significant new demand for electricity forecast in the Jerrabomberra area, we’re proposing to install a new 132kV transmission line.

The proposed 3.6 kilometre transmission line will extend from the existing East Lake Gilmore 132 kV line on the Monaro Highway, travelling east along Hindmarsh Drive to Canberra Avenue, then run adjacent to Canberra Avenue in a southerly direction.

The transmission line will then connect into a new zone substation at HMAS Harman (to be approved and constructed separately to the transmission line works). This new substation will help meet forecast demand for electricity in the surrounding area.

The new 132 kV transmission line will replace the existing 11kV line running adjacent to Canberra Avenue (pictured above).

We have engaged engineering consultants GHD to prepare an environmental impact statement. The environmental impact statement will assess potential impacts and identify measures to be implemented to manage these impacts.

Reliable electricity supply and connection of large-scale renewable generation in the ACT requires the transmission lines that service our distribution network. This project will extend Evoenergy’s transmission network to a strategic location, ensuring we can maintain a secure electricity supply for our growing population and local industry.

We encourage all parties interested in this project to join our upcoming community webinar on 3 June 2020 at 1.00pm. During the webinar we’ll be presenting information about the project including visual imagery of what the project may look like, with time at the end for Q&A.
