Evoenergy is reminding customers to Dial Before You Dig when completing excavation work around the home, to avoid hitting underground utility assets that could result in outages, damage to the Evoenergy network and potential fines.
Third-party damage to the almost 7,500km of underground utilities could interrupt the supply of electricity and gas, as well as the water and sewerage services managed by Icon Water.
Will Yeap, Evoenergy Branch Manager Gas Networks, said “Dial Before You Dig is a free essential service that all residents should utilise when doing DIY work at home. It will let you know where underground pipes and cables are on your block before you start work.
“By calling Dial Before You Dig on 1100 you can avoid damaging important underground utilities such as gas pipes, water pipes or electricity cables that can not only be dangerous, but expensive and cause service disruptions to you and your neighbours.
“Above-ground assets such as mini pillars also require 1.5 metres of clearance from obstructions like rocks, rubbish bins and plants so our crews can respond quickly to network issues and continue to provide our community with reliable services.”
