Evoenergy has responded to a request from the Australian Government to help support its humanitarian response to Tonga following Tropical Cyclone Gita.
To support the recovery of the Tongan energy supply two Evoenergy lineworkers were deployed this week to help rebuild the electricity network.
"Much of the power supply in the capital Nuku'alofa remains cut, and water supplies are also affected," said Evoenergy Branch Manager Works Delivery Clinton McAlister.
"We have deployed two lineworkers, Freddie Grace and James Gum, who specialise in restoring and maintaining overhead powerlines.
"The skills and knowledge of our local 'linies' are going to be of great benefit to the Australian response team, and we are very happy to lend a helping hand to a country in need.
"In this initial deployment our crew members will be working in Tonga for two weeks; however, the situation is being closely monitored as to whether further staff may be required for this urgent restoration effort.
"The safety, health and wellbeing of our crew is our highest priority and prior to departure crew members underwent medical screening and received all relevant vaccinations," said Clinton.
