Fadden is a great place to test how technology like small-scale batteries can be integrated into established suburbs with older style homes and large users like schools and a childcare centre.
The Fadden neighbourhood battery will be installed near the Fadden Primary School on Hanlon Crescent.
Installation is expected to start in the April school holidays and be fully installed and operational before the end of 2025.
The physical installation of the battery is expected to take 3-6 weeks. This involves foundation work and cabling from the battery to the existing substation. After installation, the site will then be returned to its existing, or better, condition. Major construction will occur on non-pupil days, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations.
