Today Evoenergy teamed up with GIVIT and Rotary Club Belconnen to donate a large pile of winter clothes and wet weather gear. Some items will be donated locally and the others will support community relief agencies in Samoa, Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka.

“As the community knows, the part of ActewAGL that manages the poles, wires and pipes changed its name to Evoenergy, and because of the name change staff uniforms had to be updated. Instead of just throwing these clothing items away we have had them dry-cleaned and the logo removed so we can donate them,” said Paul Walshe Director Brand, Communications and Corporate Affairs.

“Locally we are donating about 70 items to GIVIT and this is mostly made up of woollen jumpers and water-resistant jackets. This is an excellent example of recycle and reuse”.

GIVIT is a unique online not-for-profit, a lot like a Gumtree for charities. Through the online platform Canberran charities can request quality items for the vulnerable people they support. The public can then donate that item or put money towards purchasing the requested item.

“Next week GIVIT in the ACT will celebrate its first birthday,” said ACT GIVIT Manager Caroline Odgers.

“GIVIT has been so well received by the local community, and in our first year we have matched over 20,000 donations and partnered with 100 charities who are supporting our most vulnerable residents. GIVIT wants to ensure that all vulnerable Canberrans have basic clothing to stay warm and feel supported this winter.

“These winter woollies will be donated to Safe Shelter ACT. These donations are going to help those in need get through a cold Canberra winter,” concluded Caroline.

“Today Evoenergy also donated wet weather gear and ‘arc flash’ clothing to the Rotary Club Belconnen. The clothing items were sorted and packed by Evoenergy volunteers, and given to Rotary to distribute overseas,” said Paul.
